So I met Voltaire yesterday
I love this panoramic shot I took over the weekend at the Asbury Park Convention Hall looking down the shoreline. The boardwalk still has a long ways to go after the damage from Sandy last year but we’re getting there.
Garbage @ the Wellmont Theater - Montclair NJ 3.20.13
Such a fantastic, inspiring, and driven performance. I told myself if they ever got back together I would see them at least once. I made good on that promise to myself this evening.
This ranks right up there w/ Rammstein for what possibly could be the best show I have ever seen. They played a solid 90 minutes before an encore.
Shirley noticed a girl in the crowd that dressed just like her and told the audience she’s seen her for years, even before their hiatus, right in front and always dressed up just like Shirley. Butch had the girl come up and sit on the drum stage for a song and grab a picture with the band.
Another treat was when the brought out Marissa Paternoster, singer/guitarist of the NJ band Screaming Females, for a cover of Patti Smith’s “Because The Night.” That girl can shred.
All in all, I’m still blown away for the musicianship I saw this evening. Their music has always meant a lot to me dating back to when I was a kid and pop radio actually had meaningful music that could mend and mold one’s soul….yeah, I’ll cut that rant short. Just gonna hold onto this good feeling til I fall asleep.
I’m gonna be sore in the morning.
This is one of the better shots from tonight. It was good seeing these guys tear it up in a club venue after sitting way up on the lawn last summer when they opened for System Of A Down. Fantastic show overall- hopefully Periphery made a few new fans tonight too. They were a great choice to warm up the crowd.
